VAT in Cameroon — Key Facts

Value Added Tax (Taxe sur la Valeur Ajoutée — TVA) is the principal indirect tax in Cameroon. The standard rate is 19.25% (18.75% central government VAT plus 10% additional municipal surcharge). Certain goods and services are zero-rated or exempt (e.g. exported services, medical equipment, some agricultural inputs). Every taxable person whose annual turnover exceeds XAF 50 million must register for VAT. Voluntary registration is available for businesses below this threshold.

    VAT Registration

We handle the full registration process with the Direction Générale des Impôts (DGI), including preparation of the registration form, supporting documents (RCCM extract, NIU, articles of association, proof of business activity), and follow-up until the VAT identification number is issued. Registration typically takes 5 to 10 business days.

    Monthly & Quarterly Compliance

VAT returns must be filed monthly for businesses with turnover above XAF 500 million, and quarterly for smaller businesses. Returns are due by the 15th of the month following the reporting period. We prepare and file your VAT returns, calculate input VAT credits, handle reverse-charge mechanisms for cross-border transactions, and ensure timely payment to avoid penalties of 10% plus 0.2% monthly interest on late payments.

    VAT Advisory

We advise on the VAT treatment of complex transactions — mixed supplies, property leases, financial services, digital services, and international contracts. We help structure transactions to optimise VAT cash flow, ensure correct classification of exempt vs taxable supplies, and represent clients during DGI VAT audits.
