    AML/CFT Framework in Cameroon

Cameroon's anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CFT) framework is built on Law No. 2010/012 and its implementing decrees, aligned with the FATF recommendations. The Financial Intelligence Unit (ANIF — Agence Nationale d'Investigation Financière) is the central body responsible for receiving, analysing and disseminating suspicious transaction reports. Regulated entities include banks, insurance companies, money transfer operators, real estate agents, legal professionals, accountants, and dealers in precious metals and stones.

    Your Compliance Obligations

Regulated entities in Cameroon must: implement internal AML/CFT policies and procedures, appoint a compliance officer, conduct customer due diligence (CDD) and enhanced due diligence (EDD) for high-risk clients, monitor transactions and report suspicious activities to ANIF, maintain records for at least 5 years, train staff regularly on AML/CFT, and undergo periodic inspections by sector regulators. Non-compliance can result in significant fines, licence revocation, and criminal prosecution of officers.

    How We Help

    • AML/CFT policy and procedure drafting tailored to your sector and risk profile • Compliance officer designation and training • Customer due diligence (CDD/EDD) framework design • Suspicious transaction reporting (STR) procedures and ANIF filing • Risk assessment methodology development • Staff training programmes and awareness campaigns • Regulatory inspection preparation and representation • Ongoing compliance monitoring and advisory • Annual compliance review and gap analysis

    Sector-Specific Requirements

Banks and financial institutions are subject to the BEAC/COBAC AML regulations with the most stringent requirements. Money transfer operators must comply with BCEAO/CEMAC regulations. Real estate professionals, lawyers and accountants have specific obligations under the 2010 law. We understand the nuances of each sector's regulatory framework and tailor our services accordingly.
